MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder
Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J.) scored a career-high five goals and helped the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team earn a 13-11 victory over cross-street rival Drew University in the Battle of Madison Ave. on Monday afternoon.
The Devils (8-3, 1-0 Freedom) have now won four-straight games and six of their last seven, while the Rangers (6-4, 1-2 Landmark) snap a modest two-game winning streak.
Just over two minutes into play, FDU-Florham junior attack
Brianna Capobianco (Williston Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring by finishing an unassisted goal and 43 seconds later reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Week
Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J.) followed with her own unassisted goal, which gave the Devils an early 2-0 edge.
Rendinaro finished with three goals on the afternoon, giving her 158 for her career, which ranks fourth all-time in school history. The senior midfielder is already the program's all-time leader in assists with 103 and counting.
With 6:48 to play in the opening half, Reasoner scored her third goal of the stanza, this one off of a feed from
Frances Maggio (Bound Brook, N.J.) to put the Devils in front 6-3.
However, the Rangers closed the opening period with a flurry. The home team outscored the Devils 4-0 over the final 5:27 and took a 7-6 advantage into the break. Drew's leading scorer
Nikki Kleiman netted five goals in the loss, including the final two of the half, both off of assists from
Krysta Cento. The two teams traded early goals out of the locker room before the Devils took control with a game-changing run. Rendinaro found
Dana Amorosi (Deptford, N.J.) for the tying goal, before the senior netted her own goal, which put FDU-Florham on top for good.
Less than a minute later, Reasoner buried her fifth goal of the day and even though the Rangers countered soon after, the Devils refused to relinquish the lead.
Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J.) scored once and Maggio added two more as the Devils stretched their lead to 13-9 and secured the win.
In addition to her five goals, Reasoner added four draw controls and two ground balls, while FDU-Florham netminder
Grace Warburton (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) made eight saves to earn the victory.
The win was keyed by the Devils' second-half aggression. FDU-Florham outshot the Rangers 15-7 in the second stanza, after the team teams each took 13 shots in the first half.
FDU-Florham returns to action this Wednesday, April 8 when they host Delaware Valley College at 4 p.m.
