ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder
Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J.) scored a career-high six goals as the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team bested Eastern University 16-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Olson Field.
The Devils (13-3, 5-0 Freedom) have won nine games in a row and remain unbeaten in conference play. FDU-Florham will take on Misericordia University on Saturday, with the winner earning the Freedom Conference regular season crown and a home game against the fourth-seeded Eagles (6-10, 3-3 Freedom).
Eastern jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into play when
Anna Charlebois netted her 53
rd goal of the season but from that point forward, the game belonged to the Devils.
Sophomore
Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J.) kicked off a stretch of ten-unanswered goals for FDU-Florham. Manganella closed out that stretch with her fourth goal of the contest at the 6:45 mark before the Eagles finally answered with a
Jenn McKelvie strike three minutes shy of halftime.
Over that stretch, Manganella scored four and Reasoner buried three while,
Brianna Capobianco (Williston Park, N.Y.),
Frances Maggio (Bound Brook, N.J.) and
Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J.) each tallied one. Rendinaro and Manganella each added an assist during the run.
The Devils outshot the Eagles 16-3 over the first 30 minutes of action and picked up 14 ground balls compared to just six by Eastern.
Reasoner continued her offensive barrage by scoring the first two goals of the second stanza. The second came off of a feed from Rendinaro, which stretched the lead to 12-2.
With the game well in hand, FDU-Florham played keep away for most of the half, en route to the victory.
In addition to her six goals, Reasoner corralled a game-high five draw controls and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her ledger. Managanella finished with four scores, while Capobianco picked up a hat trick.
Rendinaro, the school's all-time leader in assists, played the role of distributor by handing out five helpers in the win.
Senior
Caitlyn McGinley (Mount Laurel, N.J.) continued her stellar backline play by causing four turnovers, while Reasoner, Maggio, and
Kelsey Ryan (Succasunna, N.J.) eached caused two.
The Devils close out their regular season schedule against Misericordia University this Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m in Dallas, Pa. The two teams are currently deadlocked atop the conference standings.
