Rendinaro's Record-Breaking Effort Propels Devils to Senior-Day Victory

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J.) celebrated her senior day by breaking the school's single-season assist record and the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team rolled to a 14-5 victory over Alvernia University at Robert T. Shields Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Devils (12-3, 4-0 Freedom), who are ranked ninth regionally in the latest poll, have now won eight games in a row and are red-hot as the regular-season winds down.

Already the school's all-time leader in assists, Rendinaro's fourth helper of the game set a new school record for assists in a season, breaking Sara Franckowiak's mark of 36, which was set in 2011.

In total, eight Devils seniors were honored prior to the start of Saturday's game for their contributions and hard work during their time in Madison.

After 10-scoreless minutes, FDU-Florham sophomore Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J.) fired the first strike with her 27th goal of the season. Then, with 18:40 to play in the opening half, senior Dana Amorosi (Deptford, N.J.) buried an unassisted strike, which stretched the lead to 2-0.

Two Rendinaro goals sandwiched another Manganella strike as the Devils went on to register the game's first five tallies.

Alvernia's Jacquelyn Strange broke through for the Crusaders (6-7, 2-4 Commonwealth) by netting a feed from Angel Adams with 12:56 to go in the half.

Minutes later, Rendinaro set up Manganella for another score, before Noelle Shirey (Pine Beach, N.J.) and Rendinaro scored 30 seconds apart from each other, which stretched the cushion to 8-1.

Leading 8-2 with the clock winding down, Rendinaro put a bow on a wonderful first half by calmly finding Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J.), who promptly fired a rocket into the back of the net as the halftime horn sounded. The assist by Rendinaro was her third of the half and 36th of the season as she tied the single-season record in just 30 minutes of action.

The Reasoner and Rendinaro duo teamed up again for the first strike of the second stanza. Reasoner received the pass from her senior teammate and strategically placed her shot into the back of the net to complete the record-breaking play.

Following an Alvernia score, the Devils rattled off four-straight goals to seal the victory.

Manganella, Rendinaro, and Reasoner all recorded hat tricks, while Rendinaro added two ground balls and the four assists to her ledger.

Fellow senior Caitlyn McGinley (Mount Laurel, N.J.) helped lead the veteran FDU-Florham defense with her strong play on the backline, which included two caused turnovers.

In her final regular-season home game, FDU-Florham goalkeeper Grace Warburton (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) made a season-high 11 saves.

The Devils, who currently sit atop the Freedom Conference standings, close out their season with two conference road tests. Next up for them is Eastern University, this Tuesday April 21 at 4 p.m.
