Men's Lacrosse Tops Cougars 9-4

UNION, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team earned a 9-4 victory over Kean University on Friday night at Kean Alumni Stadium.

The Devils (1-3) outcored the Cougars (3-2) 6-2 in the second half to break open a close game.

Junior attack Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa.) netted a career-high three goals in the victory.

FDU-Florham led 2-0 through the first period of action after freshman midfielder Dan Sagl (West Islip, N.Y.) netted one goal and assisted on teammate Matt Melnik's (Clifton. N.J.) strike.

After Kean got on the board with a goal by Matt BrodleyFDU-Florham senior Jake Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J.) countered by netting an unassisted score 4:57 before the break. The Cougars pulled within one at 3-2 after Anthony Perrotta found the back of the net 3:33 shy of intermission.

The Cougars registered the first strike of the second stanza but then Minnich went to work. The junior attack scored three goals in the third period, which gave the Devils a 6-3 advantange. Higgins and senior Nick Ardolino (Florham Park, N.J.) each assisted on a goal, while Minnich netted the other on his own.

The Devils went on to outscore the Cougars 3-1 in the fourth quarter as Connor May (Rochester, N.Y.), Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Higgins each registered tallies in the final period, en route to the five-goal victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Conner Evans (Ringwood, N.J.) made eight saves for the Devils to earn his first victory. The Devils were a perfect 13-13 on clears and outshot the Cougars 29-23 in the win.

FDU-Florham returns to action next Wednesday, March 18 when they take on cross-street rival Drew University at 7 p.m.
