Women's Soccer Breezes Past Golden Tornadoes 4-1

MADISON, N.J. – After falling behind early in the contest, the FDU-Florham women's soccer team went on to score four unanswered goals and claim a 4-1 victory over the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes in the opening round of the ECAC South Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field.

The Devils (10-9-2) offense was on the attack all afternoon as they outshot the Golden Tornadoes 21-10. Four different players scored for FDU-Florham in the win.

Less than a minute into action, Heidi Mann was dribbling the ball down the right side of the field and pulled up and ripped a shot into the back of the net from 20-yards out to give the Golden Tornadoes (9-8) the early 1-0 advantage.

The Devils responded just minutes later when junior Missy Orlando found the back of the net for the first time this season on an 18-yard rebound score off a blocked Ashley Granato shot.

In the 16th minute, the Devils took the lead once Nicolette VanDuysen sent the ball into the box and Justine Fernandez knocked it past the Geneva goalkeeper.

With a one goal lead, the Devils patiently controlled the ball. However, in the 28th minute, junior Kirsten Fila saw an opening and shot the ball into the net from 25-yards out.

The Devils were threatening to score again early in the second half and in the 54th minute, junior midfielder Brittni Calleo took a shot from the right side of the field and buried it inside the near post.

Junior goalkeeper Annie George was flawless after allowing the early goal as she went on to record four saves in the Devils' victory.

This win marks the 100th career coaching victory for Kristen Giotta, who now has 95 wins at the helm for the Devils.

FDU-Florham will advance to the next round of the ECAC South Tournament and face off against Arcadia University on Saturday, November 14 with the time still to be announced.
