Devils Fall to Swarthmore in ECAC Quarterfinals

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The FDU-Florham volleyball team was eliminated from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Tournament, falling 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 16-25, 20-25) to Swarthmore College on Wednesday night at Tarble Pavilion.

The loss caps a solid season for the Devils (21-15), while the Garnet (20-9) advance to the tournament's semifinals to take on Lebanon Valley College.

All-MAC Freedom First Team selection Lauren Harris led the Devils with 14 kills, while sophomore setter Codi Inloes-Williams dished out 20 assists on the night.

With the first set knotted at 20-20, the Devils scored three straight points, highlighted by a kill from Melissa Gaffney. Gaffney finished with 12 kills in the match. The sophomore outside hitter struck again for the Devils' 24th point before an attack error by the Garnet ended the set.

The Devils registered a match-high .327 attack percentage in that first set but were unable to continue the momentum as the Garnet rushed past them with victories in the next three sets to earn the win.

After just two attack errors in the first set, the Devils struggled to generate offense in the final three sets with eight, nine, and seven errors in each frame, respectively.

Swarthmore was led by Sarah Wallace's 17 kills and Olivia Leventhal's 15-kill effort. Senior setter Sam DuBois dished out a match-best 41 assists for Swarthmore in the victory.
