LA PLUME, Pa. – Five different Devils scored goals as the FDU-Florham field hockey team dropped Keystone College 5-2 in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Devils (8-4, 1-1 MAC Freedom) stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first 26 minutes and held on for the comfortable victory over the Giants (3-6).
Just 5:55 into the contest, Erin O'Connell opened the scoring by collecting a loose ball and sending a home a blast from the top of the circle. Next, junior forward Kylee Cintron netted her second goal of the season when she knocked home a pass from Brooke Sherwin from in front of the cage at the 18:11 mark.
Freshman Chrissy Penney added to the lead with her second collegiate goal by deflecting a Kim Davis shot from the back post for a 3-0 Devils' cushion.
After taking that 3-0 edge into the break, the Devils wasted no time striking again as Davis, the team's leader in goals, got in on the action by lacing a feed from Stephanie Geskes just inside of the far post two minutes into the second stanza.
Sherwin tacked on the team's fifth goal by finishing a pass from Gabby Allen in the 47th minute.
Keystone's Rebecca Dempster broke up the shutout in the 61st minute by sending home a shot from the top of the circle before she ended the scoring with another goal in the game's final minutes.
FDU-Florham senior netminder Amy Defnet pitched a shutout in the first half before first-year goalkeeper Samantha Rubin came on in relief to make three second-half saves.
The Devils outshot the Giants 28-9 and manufactured 16 penalty corners, while limiting the Giants to five.
Senior goalkeeper Amy Denmon made 16 stops for the Giants in the loss.
