NEW YORK, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at Hunter College on Saturday afternoon. The Devils fell to the host Hunter College 3-2 (18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 28-26, 12-15) before losing a four-set match to Susquehanna University (18-25, 20-25, 25-22, 10-25).
In the first match, the Devils (21-14, 4-3 MAC Freedom) the Devils fell behind 2-0 after dropping the first two sets but rallied to win the next two frames. In the fourth set, the Hawks (20-12) rallied from a 24-21 deficit to tie the set. Tied at 26-26, the Devils claimed the final two points with a
Kate Quinlan kill and a set error by the Hawks.
The thrilling match proceeded to a decisive fifth set where the Hawks held off a late rally for a 15-12 win. Freshman
Lauren Harris had 13 kills and 20 digs to lead the Devils, while
Melissa Gaffney totaled 12 kills and 17 digs. First-year setter
Kristi Wong dished out 35 assists in the five-set loss.
Susquehanna (23-9) topped the Devils in the second match of the day. Harris posted eight kills and Quinlan added six in the loss.
The Devils now gear up for the MAC Freedom Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, November 4 at DeSales University.
