ST. DAVIDS, PA – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team closed out their 2015 regular season in dramatic fashion by defeating the No. 8-ranked Eastern University Eagles 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in St. David's Pa.
After falling behind in the first half, the Devils (9-7-1, 5-2 MAC Freedom) used two second half scores to capture the victory over their nationally ranked conference foes.
The Devils were first to enter the scoring column after Andrew Ruane sent a cross into the box in the 28th minute that was headed into the back of the net by Sebastian Gallo.
Following the Devils score, the Eagles (14-2-2, 4-2-1 MAC Freedom) immediately went on the attack and after coming up short on two of their shot attempts, they finally struck the back of the net. It was in the 31st minute when Josh Cirocco sent a backwards pass to Sean Dougherty, who buried a shot from the left side of the box to even the score up.
Less than five minutes later, Eastern had regained possession of the ball and worked their way down the field. After a Dougherty header ricocheted off of the post, the ball ended up in front of Jacob Myers and he scored to give the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon.
Trailing by a goal early in the second half, the Devils controlled the ball and found themselves near the Eagles' net. Off of a Ruane corner, the ball entered the box and eventually it was headed into the back of the net by senior Chaz Armand, knotting the game up at 2-2.
In the 56th minute of play, freshman Jose Guardado was dribbling the ball and once he saw an opening, he ripped a shot into the goal from 18-yards out to put FDU-Florham up 3-2.
The Devils defense locked up and limited a talented Eagles' offense to just four shots, none of which were placed on goal, in the final 44 minutes of action as they went on to claim the 3-2 win .
FDU-Florham will be put up against the Eagles again in the semifinal round of the MAC Freedom Tournament that will take place on Wednesday, November 4.
