Devils Defeated 2-0 in Battle of Madison Ave.

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the Drew University Rangers in the Battle of Madison Ave. on Tuesday night in Madison, N.J.

The first half featured limited shot attempts from both teams as the Devils (8-9-2) and the Rangers' (8-9-1) defense clamped down and warded off the opposition's attack.

Junior midfielder Brittni Calleo placed the first shot of the game on the Rangers' goal, but the Drew goalkeeper, Andee Higgins, recorded the save. The Devils placed two more shots on goal in the first half. After Andee sent the first one away, the Devils next attempt came when a header by junior forward Gabby Diaco was sent in the direction of the net. As the ball was close to crossing the line, a Rangers' defender swooped in and cleared the ball.

Entering the second half knotted up at 0-0, the Rangers went on the attack and after two Katie Weber shots were unsuccessful, Alexa Kogan got the ball in the 68th minute and netted the first goal of the night.

With just over 10 minutes left to play, the Rangers were back on the Devils side of the field. The Rangers sent two shots towards the Devils' net and junior goalkeeper, Annie George saved both. However, the Rangers got another opportunity and once Katie Weber sent a corner into the box in the 80th minute, it was flicked by Melanie Santos to Emma Campbell and she found the back of the net to give Drew the 2-0 advantage and the eventual win.

The Devils will close out their 2015 season with a MAC Freedom road contest against the Eastern University Eagles on Saturday, October 31 at 12 p.m.
