Volleyball Goes 0-2 at McDaniel Tri-Match

WESTMINSTER, MD – The FDU-Florham volleyball team was swept by both Haverford College and McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon in the McDaniel Tri-Match in Westminster, MD.

vs. Haverford College (17-9):

The Devils (21-10) opened up the tri-match by falling to Haverford College 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 25-19).

The Devils biggest threat to take a set was in the second when they grabbed hold of a 16-11 lead after racking up five straight points. However, Haverford rallied late with a seven-point run to retake the lead and eventually close out the set.

Sophomore Melissa Gaffney led the Devils in kills with eight. Freshman Lauren Harris also provided pressure on the offensive end with seven kills.

Sophomore setter Codi Inloes-Williams recorded her first double-double of the season with a team-high 12 assists and 15 digs.

vs. McDaniel College (17-6):

The Devils (21-11) returned to the court and finished the afternoon with a 3-0 (12-25, 22-25, 25-27) loss to the host team, the McDaniel College Green Terror.

After a rough first set, the Devils fell behind early 8-0 in the second set, but went on to climb back into the game by notching seven straight points. The two teams traded points the rest of the way, but the Green Terror closed out the set 25-22 after two kills that were set up by Sarah Donnelly.

The Devils trailed 24-22 in the third set. However, back-to-back kills by Harris and a Rachel Catena service ace gave the Devils the 25-24 advantage.

Trailing by one point, the Green Terror bounced back and notched three unanswered scores to complete the sweep over FDU-Florham.

Harris led the Devils with a team-high 12 kills, while fellow freshman Kristi Wong notched 21 assists and nine digs.

The Devils will resume conference play on Wednesday, October 28 when they travel to Center Valley, Pa. with a showdown with the DeSales University Bulldogs.
