Men's Soccer Falls in MAC Freedom Match to Valiants

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham men's soccer was defeated by the Manhattanville College Valiants 1-0 in a MAC Freedom match on Tuesday afternoon in Purchase, N.Y.

The Devils (7-7-1, 3-2 MAC Freedom) outshot the Valiants (7-5-4, 1-1-3 MAC Freedom) 13-10 in the contest, but they were unsuccessful in their attempts to find the back of the net.

The two teams traded shots in the first half, but continued to come up short. In the 32nd minute, the Valiants took five corners in a six minute span and were only able to muster three shots, all of which were blocked.

As the first half was coming to a close, junior forward Andrew Ruane took a shot at the Valiants' goal, but Manhattanville goalkeeper, Willie Silber made the stop and the game remained scoreless.

Early in the second half, the Devils controlled the ball on the Valiants' side of the field. After earning a corner kick, junior AJ Carnevale sent a ball into the box but it was shot just over the net by Dylan Meyler. After another Devils' shot sailed high, sophomore Shawn Jennings got a hold of a ball 25-yards out and he placed a shot at the net, but it was saved by Silber.

The first two shots taken in the second half by the Valiants were saved by senior goalkeeper for FDU-Florham, Nick Mihalik. However, the ball trickled back into the box off of the second save by Mihalik and Robin Schaufele stepped up and scored to give the Valiants the 1-0 advantage at the 65th minute mark.

FDU-Florham was blanked the rest of the game, being held to just three more shots and Manhattanville went on to take the 1-0 conference victory.

The Devils will be back in action on Saturday, October 24 when they welcome the Misericordia University Cougars to Madison for their final home match of the regular season that is set to start at 1 p.m.
