Devils and Aggies Play to Scoreless Draw

MADISON, N.J. – Despite a 23-8 advantage in shot attempts, the FDU-Florham women's soccer team was unable to break through and played to a 0-0 draw against Delaware Valley University on Friday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

The Devils (8-6-2, 1-1-2 MAC Freedom) controlled the tempo for most of the game but were unable to find the back of the net against the Aggies (3-10-2, 0-3-1) in the conference battle.

Just 39 seconds into action, the Devils appeared poised for a goal when the team's leading scorer Marissa Salava got past the Aggies backline but her shot sailed wide.

The two teams failed to record another shot until Salava fired wide again at the 8:14 mark. FDU-Florham's defense prevented the Aggies from attempting their first shot until the 24:54 mark when Kylie Williams attempted a long chance from distance that was well off the mark.

Four of the Devils' seven first half shots were online but Delaware Valley goalkeeper Brenna Coll secured all of them.

The Aggies best opportunity to score came in the 74th minute when Nikki Dunlap sent a shot from the right side that caught the inside of the left post but somehow avoided crossing the goal line and the game remained scoreless.

Both teams struggled to generate quality chances in the second half until the final minute of regulation when FDU-Florham junior midfielder Brittni Calleo's  game-winning attempt sailed just high of the cross bar and the contest proceeded to overtime.

In the first extra period, the Devils registered the only three shot attempts with Kristen Fila delivering the only shot on frame.

Early in the final period, FDU-Florham junior midfielder Ashley Granato sent a long, high blast that appeared destined for the back of the net but it carried too far and landed on top of the goal.

Each team put two shots on target in the final ten minutes but both goalies corralled them with ease to seal the scoreless tie.

FDU-Florham goalkeeper Annie George made two saves, while Coll finished with 12 for the Aggies. The Devils earned the game's only five corner kicks on the night.

The Devils continue MAC Freedom action when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on Manhattanville College this Wednesday, October 21 at 7 p.m.
