DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Junior forward Kim Davis scored three goals to help push the FDU-Florham field hockey team past the Delaware Valley University Aggies 4-2 in a MAC Freedom game on Saturday afternoon in Doylestown, Pa.
With her three goals on the afternoon, Davis moved to fourth all-time in single-season goals at FDU-Florham. She is also now fourth all-time in career points and is tied for fifth all-time in career goals for the Devils. The win was also the 300th in the program's 37-year history.
The Aggies (6-8, 2-2 MAC Freedom) ventured down into Devils' territory in the seventh minute and Taylor Prichett took a shot, but it was saved by FDU-Florham (10-5, 3-1 MAC Freedom) goalkeeper, Amy Defnet. However, the Aggies got another chance less than a minute later and as the ball was loose in the circle, Samantha Collyer flicked it in the cage to give Delaware Valley the early 1-0 lead.
In the 11th minute, the Devils were awarded a penalty stroke and Davis stepped up and buried the shot to knot the game up at 1-1.
The Devils continued to apply the pressure and they earned a penalty corner in the 33rd minute. After Davis sent the ball into the circle off of the corner, she had it sent right back to her on a pass from junior defender Erin O'Connell. Once Davis had control of the ball, she fired it into the back of the cage for her second goal of the afternoon.
FDU-Florham added one more goal in half after junior forward Noelle Shirey scored on an Alicia Grotyohann assist.
Trailing 3-1 entering the second half, the Aggies looked to climb back into the game and they managed to score a goal in the 41st minute once a Cecelia Lounsberry pass was deflected into the cage by Collyer.
Following a timely Defnet save in the 53rd minute of play, the Devils dribbled the ball down the field and Davis rifled a shot at the goal, but Sonya Laley was there for Delaware Valley to pick up a defensive save.
Davis got another chance though once freshman defender Makayla Pak sent the ball towards the circle, where Davis moved up to punch it in to complete the hat-trick and seal the 4-2 conference victory.
The Devils will return to Madison for a MAC Freedom showdown with the Eastern University Eagles on Wednesday, October 21 at 7 p.m.
