MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team netted a season-high eight goals to cruise past the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles 8-0 in a non-conference match on Thursday night at Robert T. Shields Field.
The Devils went on an offensive frenzy in the game, outshooting the Eagles, 37-0.
Seven different players scored for FDU-Florham, including sophomore forward Kristina Ragolia, who had her first collegiate career multi-goal game with two goals.
FDU-Florham began with the ball and immediately went on the attack. As the Devils made their way down the field, the ball was being handled by freshman Nicolette VanDuysen and she took aim at the Eagles' net and scored from 10 yards out for her first collegiate goal.
The Devils continued to apply the pressure, but the Eagles goalkeeper, Mariah Lavornia, picked up some big saves to prevent FDU-Florham from adding to their one goal lead.
However, despite Lavornia's effort in goal, the Devils did still manage to find the back of the net. In the eighth minute, junior midfielder Brittni Calleo took a shot and it was blocked by a Eagles' defender, but the ball trickled in front of Gabby Diaco and she rifled it past Lavornia for the score.
The Devils wasted no time adding another insurance goal and less than a minute later, a Marissa Salava shot was saved but Ragolia was there for the put back score to give FDU-Florham the 3-0 advantage.
Ragolia went on to score her second goal of the night in the 16th minute when she kicked the ball into the back of the net after receiving a pass from Missy Orlando inside the box.
FDU-Florham added one more goal in the first half off a shot from Carly Bresney that was assisted by Kate MacMillan.
Just three minutes into the second half, sophomore forward Colleen Burke dribbled past an Eagles' defender and scored on a ball that was sent to the right of Lavornia.
The Devils closed out the game by adding two more impressive goals. The first came from a 35-yard strike from junior Morgan Sartori, while the second was a 30-yard boot from sophomore Justine Fernandez.
The next game in line for the Devils is a MAC Freedom match against the Delaware Valley University Aggies on Friday, October 16 at 7 p.m. in Madison.
