MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team battled in a physical double overtime MAC Freedom match with the King's College Monarchs, but ultimately, Tuesday night's game at Robert T. Shields Field ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Devils (7-6-1, 1-1-1 MAC Freedom) and Monarchs (5-5-1, 1-1-1 MAC Freedom) combined to take a total of six shots in the first half as both team's pieced together a solid defensive outing. FDU-Florham did manage to place two of their three shots on goal, but both were saved by Monarch's goalkeeper, Jessica Natale, who made eight saves on the night.
Early in the second half of play, the Devils continued to apply the pressure, sending shots towards the Monarchs' net, but Natale sent them all away.
In the 72nd minute of action, junior forward Gabby Diaco received a ball in the box and had a good look at the net, but it was sent just right of the post.
In the ladder half of the game, the Monarch's began to receive some quality looks on the offensive end. Several shots went barely wide while others were corralled by junior goalkeeper, Annie George. George's second save came with under a minute left to play when she stopped an Ivy Nulton shot that could have decided the game.
King's took control in the first overtime, outshooting the Devils 4-0. However, George stayed composed and denied two of the Monarch's shots to keep the score even.
In the second overtime period, the Devils had two shots on goal that were both saved by Natale and when the final horn sounded, the two teams were still deadlocked at 0-0 as the game ended in a draw.
The Devils will be back in action on Thursday, October 15 when they host the College of Saint Elizabeth in a non-conference match that is set to start at 7 p.m.
