CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team was blanked by the DeSales University Bulldogs 2-0 in a MAC Freedom contest on Saturday afternoon in Center Valley, Pa.
The Devils (7-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom) were coming off of a win where the offense tallied 23 shots, but against the Bulldogs (8-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom), they were held to just two. Despite picking up the loss in the match, junior goalkeeper Annie George notched a total of seven saves for FDU-Florham.
DeSales maintained possession of the ball in Devils' territory for majority of the first half. However, in the 34th minute, sophomore forward Marissa Salava brought the ball to the other end of the field and took aim at the Bulldogs' goal but her shot was blocked.
As the Bulldogs regained possession and worked their way down the field, they were awarded a free kick following a costly foul by FDU-Florham. Marissa Raia elected to take the kick and she sent it into the back of the net from 20 yards out to give DeSales the 1-0 lead.
Less than a minute into the second half, Eve Barna saw an opening and fired the ball at the Devils' goal, but George corralled it for one of her five second half saves.
The Bulldogs got the ball right back however and after Jamie Barna sent a ball into the box, it was headed into the net by Rachel Shive.
FDU-Florham will continue MAC Freedom play as King's College comes to Madison on Wednesday, October 14. The match is slated to start at 3 p.m.
