EWING, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham women's soccer team had their hands full on Tuesday night as they faced off against 12th-ranked The College of New Jersey and were blanked 5-0 by the host Lions.
The Devils (2-4-1) had the unenviable task of facing a ranked opponent for the second-straight game and could not pull off the upset of the Lions (6-1).
With 19:15 remaining in the opening stanza, the Lions broke free for the first goal of the game. Sophomore
Christine Levering netted the opening strike by redirecting a pass from teammate
Sarah Marion.
Just over ten minutes later, Marion scored a goal of her own when she received a lead pass and evaded FDU-Florham goalkeeper
Annie George's (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) challenge. George battled all night and made several difficult saves. The sophomore netminder turned away ten shots in the loss.
After intermission, the Lions resumed the scoring when senior
Korrie Harkins fired from inside of the penalty area two minutes into the half. TCNJ tacked on two more goals in the final ten minutes to finish off the victory. The Lions outshot the Devils by a lopsided 26-3 margin in the contest, as FDU-Florham was unable to put an attempt on net.
