MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham women's soccer team fell 6-0 to the No. 13 Montclair State University Red Hawks at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday night.
The Devils (2-3-1) were forced to defend the Red Hawks attack early and often. Sophomore goalkeeper
Annie George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) made two big saves for the Devils in the 17
th minute to keep Montclair (5-1) scoreless. However, the Red Hawks were relentless and in the 21
st minute,
Janae Geonnetti sent a cross into the box and
Martina Landeka headed the ball into the back of the net to give Montclair State a 1-0 lead.
The Red Hawks began adding to their lead when
Shawna Grabowski netted two goals less than a minute apart from each other 20 minutes into the game. With a 3-0 advantage heading into the second half, the Red Hawks scored three more times to seal the victory.
The Devils struggled offensively against a top-ranked Red Hawks defense that has not allowed a single goal since their first game of the season. Freshman Kirstina Ragolia (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) was the only Devil to put on a shot on goal and it was saved by Montclair goalkeeper
Meghan Calcaterra in the 85
th minute. The Devils were outshot 26-4 on the night. George made five saves in defeat for the Devils.
The shutout is the fifth-straight for Montclair State.
