Davis Delivers Victory in Double-OT Thriller

Box Score WAYNE, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham field hockey season began with a bang, as the Devils prevailed 3-2 over William Paterson University in double overtime on Friday night.

After trailing 2-1 in the second half, the Devils (1-0) rallied to tie the game before sophomore Kim Davis (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) netted her second goal of the contest, this one off of a penalty corner in extra time, to give FDU-Florham an exciting victory.

From six yards out, 15:43 into the contest, Davis opened the scoring to put the Devils in front 1-0. Shortly before halftime, the Pioneers responded when freshman Katie Stetser knotted the game at 1-1 by converting an assist from Courtney Chelf and it remained even at intermission.

In the 44th minute, the Pioneers claimed the lead when junior Angelica Giametta cleaned up a loose ball in front of the net for their second strike of the night. However, the Devils continued to pressure William Paterson goalkeeper Meg Davies and at the 63:00 mark, freshman Jodie Crutchley (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) found the back of the cage off of an assist from senior Niki Ikeda (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) and tied the game at two goals aside. Making her collegiate debut, Crutchley fired five shots, four of which were on net.

The game remained even for the rest of regulation and through one overtime period but 54 seconds into overtime number two, Davis fired a shot into the upper right corner of the cage, which sent the Devils home with the win. In the victory, Ikeda and junior Nicole Hall (Collingswood, N.J/Collingswood) contributed assists, while FDU-Florham goalkeeper Samantha Klimaszewski (Green Village, N.J./Madison) made one save and earned the victory. Davies stopped 14 shots in defeat, as the Devils fired 22 shots in total on the night.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU-Florham plays their home opener when they host Gwynedd Mercy University this Sunday, August 31st with start time slated for 11:30 a.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
