Devils Drop Double-OT Thriller to Knights, Will Play Wednesday in Freedom Tournament

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking double-overtime loss 8-7 to Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at Easton Field.
Despite the loss, the Devils (7-9, 4-2 Freedom) will return to Glenside this Wednesday for a rematch against the Knights (16-1, 6-0 Freedom) in the first round of the 2014 Freedom Conference Tournament.

FDU-Florham, Wilkes and Misericordia all finished 4-2 in the conference, were 1-1 against each other, and had identical records against the rest of the league. Wilkes was awarded the No. 2 seed based on goal differential between the three tied teams. Once the three-way tie was broken, it fell to head-to-head results between the Devils and Cougars, giving the Cougars the No. 3 seed by virtue of their 13-12 win over the Devils on April 2nd in Madison.

After the Knights claimed a 1-0 lead, the Devils responded with three-straight goals to move in front.  Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) evened the score, Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) put the Devils on top and three minutes later freshman Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) netted her 39th goal of the season. Arcadia got one back before halftime and the Devils held a 3-2 lead at the break.

A neck-and-neck second half, resulted in a 6-5 lead for the Knights, however, with 2:46 to play in regulation, junior Caitlyn McGinley (Mount Laurel, N.J./Camden Catholic) fired home an assist from Noelle Shirey (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) and tied the game at 6-6.

With 1:06 to play in the first overtime period, Rendinaro put the Devils ahead with her second goal of the day. The Knights earned a free position attempt with one tick showing on the clock and junior Hayley Molloy converted the opportunity, which tied the game at 7-7. Unfortunately 1:09 into the second overtime, Arcadia freshman Erin Misner netted the game-winner.

Reasoner and Rendinaro each totaled two goals and two ground balls in the loss, while Reasoner added four caused turnovers. The Devils outshot the Knights 23-20 in the game but lost the battle on ground balls and draw controls.

Misner and Molloy paced the Knights attack with two goals apiece in the win.

Next up for the Devils:
These two teams face off again this Wednesday, April 30th in the opening game of the Freedom Conference Tournament. Start time is slated for 4 p.m. in Glenside, Pa.
