Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team cruised to a comfortable 15-3 victory over Manhattanville College on Wednesday night in Freedom Conference action.
The Devils (7-8, 4-1 Freedom) scored eight first-half goals en route to the 12-goal victory. Freshman midfielder
Noelle Shirey (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) led the Devils with a career-high six goals in the win. With the loss, the Valiants drop to 1-14 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
Only 46 seconds into play, freshman midfielder
Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) opened the scoring with her 23
rd goal of the season. The freshman added another goal along with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers in the contest.
After two strikes by Shirey, the Valiants broke through for their first goal and cut the Devils' lead to 3-1. However, FDU-Florham resumed their offensive barrage and eight minutes later, freshman
Annie George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) fired home an assist from
Frances Maggio (Bound Brook, N.J./Bridgewater).
FDU-Florham tacked on four more goals before halftime and entered intermission with an 8-1 cushion. Five of Shirey's six scores game over the first 30 minutes of action.
The Devils kept up the offense and scored the first five goals of the second stanza, which put the game out of reach and gave FDU-Florham a 13-1 lead. Five different Devils netted goals during this stretch including, Shirey, Reasoner, Maggio and reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Week
Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury). Another freshman,
Laura Cannillo (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) scored the fifth goal of the run and the first of her career.
FDU-Florham's defense limited the Valiants to just two goals in the second half, as the road team picked up the win. In addition to her six goals, Shirey also nabbed three draw controls, which tied
Brittni Calleo (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) for a game-high.
