Devils Catch Fire in 18-Goal Victory

Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-5 victory over King's College on Thursday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field.
The Devils (6-8, 3-1 Freedom) led the Lady Monarchs (3-9, 1-4) 11-2 at the half and remained in control for the comfortable victory.

Freshman attack Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) continued her outstanding first season by totaling six goals and three assists in the win. The freshman now has 36 goals on the season and trails junior Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) by just two scores for the team lead.

FDU-Florham currently sits in second place in the Freedom Conference standings and trails Arcadia University by one game.

With the game tied at two, the Devils grabbed control by scoring nine-straight goals to take a commanding 11-2 lead. Sophomore Brianna Capobianco (Williston Park, N.Y./Kellenberg) scored the first three goals of the run , then Manganella and Rendinaro teamed up to record the next five tallies for FDU-Florham. With 1:34 to play until halftime, the Lady Monarchs broke the streak and the Devils led 11-3 at intermission.

In the second half, the Devils continued to pour on the offense. Just 17 seconds into the half, talented freshman Noelle Shirey (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) netted her second goal of the contest. The Devils proceeded to score five more unanswered goals and staked a 17-3 lead.

Capobianco finished with four goals on five shots, while Shirey added three goals, three ground balls, and three ground controls to her ledger. FDU-Florham outshot the Lady Monarchs 22-6 in the first half and 34-11 in the contest.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU-Florham heads to Purchase, N.Y. next Wednesday, April 23rd to take on Manhattanville College.
