Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J – The FDU-Florham Devils women's lacrosse team was defeated by their in-state rival Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks 15-9 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ducks (2-2) were led by sophomore midfielder
Erika Wilcox, who tallied seven goals in the win. Despite three goals apiece from freshmen
Joelle Manganella (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) and
Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central), the Devils drop to 0-3 on the season.
Following a goal by the Ducks ten seconds into play, Manganella notched her first strike of the day to even the score at 1-1. Stevens grabbed control and blew the game open by tallying seven unanswered goals, which provided the Ducks an 8-1 lead with 6:15 remaining in the opening half.
Courtney Rendinaro's (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) first of two goals on the day temporarily stopped the scoring run but three minutes later Wilcox added her fourth goal of the half to push the Ducks lead back to seven at 9-2.
Manganella opened the second half scoring with a goal but Stevens countered with two goals of their own, which provided them an 11-3 edge with 19:07 to play in regulation. The Devils were unable to rally for their first win of the season, ultimately falling 15-9.
Rendinaro finished with two goals, two assists, and two ground balls for FDU-Florham, while freshman midfielder
