Devils Fall to Rangers in Battle of Madison Ave

Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils women's lacrosse team (3-5) fell to cross-town rival Drew University (6-2) in a frigid Wednesday night matchup at Robert T. Shields Field.

FDU-Florham juniors Caitlyn McGinley (Mount Laurel, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) each totaled two goals for the Devils in the loss. Rendinaro was named Freedom Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading FDU-Florham to two wins in Hilton Head, S.C.

The loss drops the Devils to 1-15 all-time against the Rangers, as Drew earned its sixth-straight win of the season.

Drew opened the scoring 30 seconds into action when senior Brooke Gagliano hit Krysta Cento with a pass, which she promptly tossed into the net. Three minutes later, the Devils retaliated when McGinley found the back of the net for her first goal of the night.

The Rangers claimed a 2-1 lead with 20:51 to play in the opening half, but the Devils responded when junior attack Dana Amorosi (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) netted a free position shot. Unfortunately, the Rangers regained the lead 30 seconds later when freshman Charlotte Brown scored. Cento tacked on two more strikes prior to intermission and the Rangers held a 5-2 lead at the break.

Trailing 6-3, Brittni Calleo (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) and McGinley each scored to bring the Devils back within two with 23:55 to go. However, the Devils were not able to get any closer and the Rangers closed the game by scoring the last three goals to claim the victory.

FDU-Florham freshman Noelle Shirey (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) played stellar defense and caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls in the loss.

Cento led the Rangers by totaling four goals and four assists in the win, while junior Nikki Kleinman also netted four goals for Drew in the contest.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU-Florham takes on Montclair State University this Saturday, March 29th with start time slated for 11 a.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
