Box Score DALLAS, Pa. – The No. 7 FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball team continued the best start in the school's history on Saturday afternoon, by defeating Misericordia University 82-54 at the Anderson Center.
The Devils (19-0, 9-0 Freedom) led by 11 points at the half and outscored the Cougars (7-11, 3-5 Freedom) 21-9 over the first eight minutes of the second stanza to put the game out of reach and remain unbeaten on the season.
Senior point guard
Jalessa Lewis (Irvington, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) paced the Devils with 12 points, while fellow senior
Melissa DeHaas (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) added eight points and pulled down eight rebounds, both season highs, in the victory.
After a made basket by freshman guard
Shannon Croasdale, the Cougars held a seven-point lead (15-8) with 11:21 to play in the first half. FDU-Florham countered with a 21-5 run over the next seven minutes to build a 29-20 advantage. Through the first two minutes of action, the Devils outscored the Cougars 20-4 in the paint and went to intermission with a 39-28 lead.
FDU-Florham tallied 13 points off of Misericordia turnovers in the second half, which helped the Devils to increase their cushion. The Devils received 42 points from their bench, including 10 points apiece from DeHaas and
Alyssa McDonough (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville) and nine from junior guard
Randi Jo Farrell (West Orange, N.J./Mount St. Dominic).
The Cougars were led offensively by
Katie Drayton and Hannah Seely, who finished with 14 points and 12 points respectively.
Despite being outrebounded 31-25 in the contest, the Devils held a 19-9 advantage over the Cougars on the offensive glass. The stout FDU-Florham defense held Misericordia without a made three-point field goal in the game.
