Top-Ranked Devils Gear up for D3hoops.com Classic

MADISON, N.J. -- The No. 1 FDU-Florham women's basketball team is set to travel to Las Vegas for the D3hoops.com Classic, where they will face off against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and University of Wisconsin-Platteville on December 29-30.

This will be the first appearance for the Devils at the D3hoops.com Classic, which consists of 14 men's and women's teams from around the country.

In the first-ever matchup between the two teams, the top-ranked Devils square off against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers (6-4) on Monday, December 29 at 2 p.m. (PST). Last season's Final Four was hosted by the Pointers, as the Devils traveled to Stevens Point and claimed the school's first ever National Championship by defeating Tufts University and Whitman College. The Pointers enter the D3hoops.com Classic with a modest two-game winning streak. In their last contest, the Pointers knocked off No. 22 St. Norbert College 71-59.

Following the game against UW-Stevens Point, the Devils take on another Wisconsin-based school in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The Pioneers (8-2) have won seven of their last eight games including a 55-46 victory over Ripon Colllege last week. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m. (PST) on Tuesday, December 30.

FDU-Florham is a perfect 8-0 this season and boast an average margin of victory of 27.3 points a game. The Devils have won 41-straight games, as the team's last loss came in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament to Widener University on March 1, 2013. The team ranks fourth in the country in scoring (87.1 ppg) and have five players averaging at least 10 points per game. FDU-Florham ranks second in the nation in turnover margin (+14.88) and sixth in 3-pointers made per game (9.5).

In response to his thoughts on next week's trip, head coach Marc Mitchell said, "We are looking forward to this great opportunity at the D3hoops Classic and anticipate this being our toughest test of the season so far."

The D3hoops.com Classic begins on Sunday, December 28 and concludes on Tuesday, December 30 with all games being played at the South Point Hotel Casino and Spa in Las Vegas, Nev.
