WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 1 FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball rolled to an 84-59 victory over Catholic University on Sunday afternoon at DuFour Athletic Center.
Senior guard Leigh-Ann Lively (Bangor, Pa.) netted a game-high 17 points and the Devils (5-0) made it 38 straight victories, while handing the Cardinals (3-2) a loss in their home opener.
The Devils defense continued to shine as FDU-Florham forced Catholic to commit 25 turnovers, which the top-ranked team converted into 34 points on the other end of the floor.
Leading 18-15 in the first half, the Devils offense kicked it into gear with 3-pointers by Lively, Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J.) and Kara Dayon (Trenton, N.J.). The Devils went on to outscore the Cardinals 23-7 over the final six minutes of the half and held a 41-23 advantage at the break.
FDU-Florham turned the Cardinals over 15 times in the first half as Kara Dayon nabbed three of her game-high four thefts in the opening stanza.
In the second half, the Devils remained in charge and stretched their lead to as much as 28 points before ultimately finalizing the 25-point victory.
Lively drained five shots from beyond the arc, which equated to 15 of her 17 tallies, while junior forward Shalette Brown (Somerset, N.J.) finished with 15 points and corralled six boards in the victory.
Kyra Dayon was one of four Devils to score nine points in the win and the senior guard added five rebounds and five assists to her ledger in the win.
Michelle DeSantis paced the Cardinals with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in defeat.
