DALLAS, Pa. -- The FDU-Florham mens' soccer team dropped a Freedom Conference match 3-1 to Misericordia University on Saturday evening.
Misericordia (11-5-2, 5-1 Freedom) ran out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they ended the Devils (5-9-3, 3-3 Freedom) two-game winning streak.
Nick Rogers set up the Cougars first goal of the match by sending a ball into the box and onto the head of
Rob Wiacek, who promptly knocked into the back of the net. In the 26th minute,
Derek Antonini gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead by finishing off a series of passes from
Chris Edkins and
Dante Ippolito.Misericordia kept that two-goal advantage into the break and hammered out 16 shots over the first stanza. On the other end of the field, the Cougars limited the Devils to just two shot attempts.
At the 57:47 mark the Cougars enhanced their lead as
Nick vonEgypt buried a putback into the empty Devils' net for his fifth goal of the season. FDU-Florham sophomore
Jay Bower (Farmingdale, N.J.) broke up the shutout in the 67th minute by finishing off a throw-in from
Andrew Ruane (Parsippany, N.J.).
In the loss, FDU-Florham goalkeepers
Nick Mihalik (Wayne, N.J.) and JT Bredthauer (Moorestown, N.J.) combined to make four stops.
Next up for the Devils:FDU-Florham visits Delaware Valley College this Saturday, November 1st with start time set for 2:30 p.m. in Doylestown, Pa.
