Women's Soccer Blanked by Bulldogs

MADISON, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham women's soccer team were unable to find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss to DeSales University on Saturday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

The Devils (5-7-2, 1-2 Freedom) were shutout for the third-straight game, as the Bulldogs (7-5-3, 4-0 Freedom) remained unbeaten in conference play. DeSales is currently deadlocked with Misericordia University for the top spot, while the Devils are tied with King's College for fourth in the Freedom Conference standings.

FDU-Florham earned three quality scoring chances early in the contest. Gabby Diaco's (Montville, N.J.) shot was saved, then freshmen Justine Fernandez (Iselin, N.J.) missed wide with a header, before Marissa Salava's (Robbinsville, N.J.) shot sailed high. The Devils fired five shots in the first stanza to just two attempts for the Bulldogs but the game remained scoreless at the break.

Unfortunately, the second half belonged to the Bulldogs. DeSales turned up the energy and just under five minutes into the half senior Brady Walsh got the Bulldogs on the board by lobbing a shot over Devils' goalkeeper Annie George's (Denville, N.J.) head and into the back of the net. Less than ten minutes later, Walsh struck again, this time receiving a pass from Emily Calatayud and finishing the breakaway for her second goal of the match.

In the 63rd minute, Walsh completed the hat trick by finishing a chip pass in front of the net to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage. The goal was Walsh's team-leading 14th of the season and she has now scored seven goals in the team's last two outings.

DeSales freshman Gabby Lucchese netted her first career goal in the 68th minute to provide the final score off of an assist from Megan Strauser. The Bulldogs outshot the Devils 13-5 and dominated the second stanza.

In the loss, George made five stops for FDU-Florham, while DeSales goalkeeper Michelle Churchman made three saves.

Next up for the Devils:

FDU-Florham continues Freedom Conference play this Tuesday, October 21st when they host Manhattanville College at 7 p.m.
