MADISON, N.J. -- After 110 minutes of nonstop effort, the FDU-Florham women's soccer team played the Albright College Lions to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.
The Devils (4-4-2, 0-0 Freedom) recorded their second draw of the season, as they prepare for Freedom Conference play this weekend.
The Lions (4-5-1), from the Commonwealth side of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), brought a balanced attack to the field on Wednesday but could not break the Devils' defense.
The two teams defenses were relentless and limited potential scoring opportunities all night. Early in the first half, Lions' back
Rebecca Sartorio had a fast break with plenty of daylight, however, FDU-Florham sophomore
Ashley Granato (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) chased her down and diffused the opportunity, which resulted in a goal kick. FDU-Florham's backline held the Lions to just one shot attempt in the first half as the two sides entered the break scoreless.
In the second half, both teams showed a sense of urgency but again the defenses stood tall and prevailed. The two squads earned four corner kicks apiece in the second stanza but were unable to capitalize.
Devils' goalkeeper Annie George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) turned away Albright's five shots on goal in the game. FDU-Florham freshmen
Justine Fernandez (Iselin, N.J./JFK) and
Kristina Ragolia (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) each managed two shots, while Albright junior
Emily Diaz recorded two attempts on goal in the draw. Ragolia had the Devils best scoring opportunity in the first extra-time period but her attempt sailed wide.
The scoreless draw comes after the Lions earned a 3-2 victory last season in Reading, Pa.
