Devils Conquer Lady Monarchs 3-0

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The FDU-Florham volleyball team  improved to 2-1 in Freedom Conference play by sweeping King's College 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-18) on Wednesday night at Scandion Gymnasium.

The Devils (14-12, 2-1 Freedom) edged the Lady Monarchs (9-4, 0-3 Freedom) in the first two sets before claiming the final set in comfortable fashion.

With their backs against the wall, the Devils rallied from down 24-22 to stave off two set points for the Lady Monarchs before ultimately claiming the set 26-24. With momentum now on their side, the Devils cruised in the next two sets en route to the victory.

Freshmen Natalie Knudsen (Chester, N.J./Mendham) and Melissa Gaffney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) had it working on Tuesday, as the tandem teamed up to total 28 kills in the match. Gaffney finished with a match-high 15 kills, while Knudsen tallied 13 kills in the win. In addition, Gaffney's defense was stellar as the freshman totaled seven digs, which was second on the team behind sophomore libero Alex Mueller's (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) 15 digs.

FDU-Florham setter Codi Inloes-Williams (Palmer Lake, Colo./Liberty) handed out 34 assists and added five digs to her ledger on the night.

For the Lady Monarchs, Katelyn Shifflett totaled 12 kills and four digs to pace King's, while setter Mary Loughran dished out 29 assists in the loss.
