Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The No. 10 FDU-Florham Devils continued their winning-ways by rolling over the Misericordia University Cougars, 100-51 on Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference action.
The Devils (15-0, 3-0 MAC) were in control from the outset and cruised to the wire-to-wire victory. FDU led 52-20 at the break and held the Cougars (6-8, 2-2 MAC) to just six made field goals in the opening half of play. Devils freshman point guard
Alyssa McDonough (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville) led all scorers with a career-high 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting. McDonough added five assists and two rebounds in the win.
Rachel Groom (Edison, N.J./Edison) helped the Devils jump out to a great start by scoring 13 of the team's first 15 points, equating to a 15-6 advantage just five minutes into play. Misericordia had no answer for the Devils relentless full-court pressure, which resulted in 14 first-half turnovers by the Cougars. FDU knocked down six three-pointers on 13 tries in the opening stanza and entered intermission with a 32-point cushion.
The second half was all Devils as FDU closed the game with a 24-7 run en route to the decisive victory. The Devils bench played a key role in the win, totaling 49 points, led by McDonough's 20 tallies and 13 points from
Leigh-Ann Lively (Bangor, Pa./Notre Dame).
Groom finished with 18 points, while junior forward
Delisha Thompson (East Orange, N.J./East Orange Campus) hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds along with six points. Senior forward
Hannah Seely led the Cougars with 14 points and senior guard
Katie Drayton chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
FDU honored junior-standout
Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) prior to the game for becoming the 14
th Devils women's basketball player to reach the 1,000 career-point milestone. Dayon picked up her 1,000
th point on November 22
nd against the Rose Hulman Institute in Wilmington, Ohio.
