Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham Devils men's basketball team dropped a close contest 82-75 to the Hunter College Hawks on Monday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Devils (6-7, 1-1 MAC) cut an 11-point lead down to four with 1:32 to play, but the Hawks secured the victory by knocking down clutch free throws to earn the seven-point win.
John Flete (Flemington, N.J./North Hampton CC) led the Devils with 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting, while junior guard
Kevin Furlong (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) totaled 20 points and five assists in defeat.
FDU only trailed by two at the half (36-34) despite allowing the Hawks to shoot 52 percent from the floor. Furlong tallied 14 of his 20 points in the first 20 minutes of action to help counter the Hawks hot-shooting.
With 13:35 to play in regulation, a layup by Furlong provided the Devils with their first lead of the contest at 45-44. Hunter managed to reclaim control and built a nine-point lead over the next six minutes of action.
Brian Kruger's shooting was the key for the Hawks, as the sophomore guard knocked down all four of his second-half, three-point attempts en route to a game-high 29 points. Kruger finished 5-of-6 from downtown on the night.
The Devils trailed 72-61 with 5:03 to go and used an 8-1 run to cut the Hunter lead to four points, however, the Hawks converted 6-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Will Green (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Devils in defeat. Green is now just 17 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Lester Anim picked up a double-double in the win with 13 points and 11 boards for the Hawks, who improved to 7-7 on the campaign.
