Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils (3-3) field hockey team fell in overtime to the Stevens Institute Ducks (3-2) on Wednesday night, 2-1, in a tightly contested defensive battle.
Following a scoreless first half of play, the Devils broke through when
Kim Davis deflected a
Niki Ikeda rocket into the back of the net. The setup began on a penalty corner from
Lanie Andrews, as she delivered a great pass to Ikeda, resulting in a 1-0 FDU lead.
Eight minutes later the Ducks evened things up at one aside and that score would hold through the end of regulation. The Devils were able to hang tough despite being outshot 17-5, in part to the stellar goalie play of FDU goalkeeper
Tess Loughran who compiled 12 saves.
The Ducks drove home the final score of the night five minutes into overtime when Stevens senior forward Rachel Chavez found the back of the net after a corner setup.
In defeat, Davis picked up her first goal of the 2013 campaign and teammate Ikeda notched her first assist.
