Courtney Rendinaro scored five goals apiece while sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Warburton made 15 saves and was tremendous in goal to lead the top-seeded College at Florham Devils to their second straight Freedom Conference Tournament Championship with a 15-10 victory over second-seeded Arcadia on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 12-7 while the Knights dropped to 14-5. FDU will now await a postseason bid to either the NCAA or ECAC Tournaments.
After Arcadia jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, FDU couldn't have drawn up a better response as they scored seven consecutive goals to grab a 7-1 advantage with 15:51 to go in the first half. Slicklen and Rendinaro each scored two goals in the spurt for the Devils. The Knights cut it to 7-2 just 0:30 later but Slicklen and Rendinaro scored back-to-back goals to give FDU a 9-2 lead with 14:29 remaining. Arcadia pulled to within 9-3 but junior attack
Ashley Schlindwein got that goal back with 5:50 to go to make it 10-3 in favor of FDU. The Knights notched the final goal of the first half to go into the break trailing by a margin of 10-4.
The two squads traded two goals apiece to begin the second half, with Rendinaro and senior midfielder
Katie Rolwood scoring the FDU goals, and the Devils had a 12-6 edge with 17:46 left in the game. Arcadia made one final push however, as they scored three of the next four goals to cut their deficit to 13-9 with 12:08 remaining. As they did all day though, Slicklen and Rendinaro responded by scoring the next two goals to five FDU a comfortable lead of 15-9 with 8:44 to play. The Knights scored one last goal with 4:55 left but FDU won the draw and ran out the clock to set off the celebration.
Rolwood finished the game with two goals and one assist while Schlindwein also added two goals. Warburton was named Tournament Most Valuable Player for her efforts in goal, which included numerous saves in one-on-one situations in front of the cage.
