Sara Slicklen tallied five goals and two assists while freshman attack
Brianna Capobianco added four goals to lead the top-seeded College at Florham Devils past fourth-seeded Manhattanville, 17-13, in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. FDU will now go on to play second-seeded Arcadia in the Finals on Saturday.
With the win, the Devils improved to 11-7 while the Valiants dropped to 5-12.
FDU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after goals from Slicklen and senior midfielder
Katie Rolwood but Manhattanville got those two goals back and tied it at 2-2 with 25:01 left in the first half. After the game was tied at 3-3, the Devils took control by scoring four of the next five goals to grab a 7-4 advantage with 11:39 to go thanks to two goals from Slicklen. The Valiants notched two of the next three goals to trim their deficit to 8-6 but Rolwood scored with just 0:25 to go in the half to give FDU a 9-6 halftime edge.
The Devils came out hot to start the second half, ripping off five of the first six goals to take a 14-7 lead with 25:26 left in the game as Slicklen and Capobianco each scored two goals during the spurt. Manhattanville didn't give up though, as they reeled off six of the next seven goals to pull to within 15-13 with 5:30 remaining. The Devils won the ensuing draw however, and Slicklen found Capobianco to put FDU by a score of 16-13 a minute later. FDU put the icing on the cake with 3:11 to go as sophomore attack
Dana Amorosi converted a free position shot to reach the final score of 17-13.
Amorosi finished with three goals and an assist while Rolwood recorded two goals and an assist. Rolwood's first goal of the game gave her 97 points on the season which now makes her first All-Time in FDU history in single-season points, surpassing the previous record of 96 set by
Amanda Wayne. Sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Warburton picked up the win, making nine saves.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at home against second-seeded Arcadia in the Freedom Conference Tournament Finals beginning at 1 pm.
