Box Score CENTER VALLEY, PA - With the game tied at 57-57 and 0:21 remaining, top-seeded DeSales got a jumper from
Michael Guldin to take a 59-57 lead over the fourth-seeded College at Florham Devils. FDU came down and a potential game-winning three-pointer from junior guard
Trevor Sykes went off to the left allowing DeSales to escape with the victory in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament.
With the loss, the Devils finish their season with a record of 12-14 while the Bulldogs improved to 21-5 and will go on to play second-seeded Delaware Valley in the Championship Game.
The Devils got off to about as good of a start as you could ask for, as they opened up a 14-8 lead with 11:48 left in the first half thanks to six points from senior guard
Mike Williamson. DeSales responded however, going on a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes to grab a 23-16 advantage with 3:58 to go. FDU trailed by six, 27-21, with 0:07 to play when sophomore guard
Kevin Furlong produced a play that was almost an exact replica of his game-tying three-pointer against cross-town rival Drew earlier in the season. After DeSales scored, Furlong got the ball and raced down the court where he pulled up five-feet from beyond the three-point line and buried a three at the buzzer to give the Devils momentum heading into intermission, even though they trailed by a score of 27-24.
FDU built on Furlong's big shot to start the second half, as they scored the first five points to grab a 29-27 lead. The Bulldogs responded immediately though, going on a 16-6 run to take a 43-35 lead with 13:36 to go. It was then the Devils turn to go on a run, as FDU reeled off a 14-6 burst to tie the game at 49-49 with 8:51 to play. Williamson was again the catalyst, this time scoring eight points. While the Devils never got the lead back, they also didn't allow DeSales to open up more than a four-point edge in the next 6:30 as the Bulldogs had a 57-53 lead with 2:01 remaining. Williamson answered with two free throws to cut it to 57-55 and junior forward
Will Green tied the game at 57-57 with 1:09 to go after he drilled two freebies. DeSales missed a shot on their next possession but got a huge offensive rebound which then allowed Guldin to hit a running jumper in the lane to put the Bulldogs up 59-57 with 0:21 to go. FDU got the ball across half court and called a timeout with 0:08 remaining. Sykes then got the ball at the top of the key and attempted the potential game-winning three-pointer but it went off to the left and the Bulldogs moved on to the finals.
Williamson led the way for FDU with a game-high 18 points while Green notched 13 points and eight rebounds. Furlong tallied nine points, four rebounds, and two steals, junior forward
Andrew Stress came off the bench for nine points, and senior forward
Derek Hall recorded six points, five boards, and two steals.
