Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA - The 25th-ranked College at Florham Devils saw their three school records (best record to start a season, consecutive wins in a row, best conference record to start a season) come to an abrupt halt on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by King's, 66-45, in Freedom Conference action.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 19-2 (9-1 Freedom) while the Monarchs improved to 16-5 (8-2 Freedom).
FDU got off to a good start, opening up a 10-4 lead just seven minutes into the game thanks to five points from sophomore forward
Kyra Dayon. King's came right back though, going on a quick 7-0 run to take an 11-10 lead but the Devils rebounded by reeling off a 6-1 run to take a 16-12 advantage with 6:36 left in the half. The Monarchs went on top by a margin of 17-16 a minute and a half later but the Devils went on an 8-2 run to take a 24-19 lead with 0:16 to go. The Devils played solid defense on the other end but a questionable foul call gave King's three free throws with 0:01 remaining, in which they hit two to make the score 24-21 in favor of FDU at halftime.
King's began the second half on fire, ripping off a 14-0 run over the first four minutes to take a 35-24 lead. After the Devils cut it to 35-28 with 14:09 to go, the Monarchs put the game out of reach with a 24-7 run over the next eleven minutes to take a commanding 59-35 advantage on their way to the 66-45 victory.
Dayon finished the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds while sophomore guard
Leigh-Ann Lively tallied 10 points and five boards.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Wilkes beginning at 6 pm.
