Derek Hall recorded 15 points and seven rebounds while senior guard
Mike Williamson chipped in 13 points to help the College at Florham Devils beat Delaware Valley, 58-54, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon. A Delaware Valley win would have give the Aggies the top seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament but the Devils spoiled those plans.
With the win, the Devils improved to 12-13 (7-7 Freedom) while the Aggies dropped to 17-8 (11-3 Freedom). The FDU win gives DeSales the top spot in the Freedom Conference Tournament.
FDU jumped out to a 9-4 edge five minutes into the contest before Delaware Valley reeled off a 19-9 run over the next ten minutes to grab a 23-18 lead with 5:17 left in the first half. The Aggies led 24-20 with 2:34 to go but FDU scored the final three points of the half to make it 24-23 entering the break.
The Devils came out strong to start the second half, ripping off a quick 7-2 run to grab a 30-26 advantage but Delaware Valley came right back and grabbed a 33-32 lead with 15:02 to play. That's when the Devils took over for good though, as they went on a 10-2 run to grab a 42-35 lead with 8:54 to go after a layup by Hall. Then after DVC cut it to three, 45-42, two minutes later, FDU ripped off a 6-0 run to take a 51-42 edge with 2:53 remaining. Delaware Valley fought right back though as they closed to within one, 55-54, with 0:49 to go. That's when Williamson stepped up however, hitting 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the 58-54 victory on Senior Day.
