Devils Secure Tournament Bid With 59-49 Win Over Eastern

Box Score ST. DAVIDS, PA - The College at Florham Devils knocked off Eastern, 59-49, in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday evening to secure the fourth and final spot in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.

With the win, the Devils improved to 11-13 (6-7 Freedom) while the Eagles dropped to 6-18 (4-9 Freedom).  The Devils have now qualified for the conference tournament for the second straight year, the first time they have made it in back-to-back seasons since 1997-98 and 1998-99 campaigns.

The Devils opened the game with a 14-6 run thanks to six points from senior guard Mike Williamson.  Eastern came right back however, going on a 12-3 run to grab an 18-17 advantage with 3:51 left in the first half.  FDU scored the next five points to take a 22-18 lead but the Eagles converted the final bucket of the half with 0:02 remaining to make it 22-20 in favor of the Devils heading into intermission.

After Eastern took a 25-24 lead to begin the second stanza, FDU ripped off a 22-9 run to grab a 46-34 lead with 9:55 to play.  Senior forward Derek Hall scored nine points in the run while Williamson added eight points.  Eastern cut it to eight, 46-38, two minutes later but FDU came right back with a 13-3 run, thanks to six points from junior forward Will Green, to put the game away with 1:41 left.  The Eagles got a few buckets to go in the final minute but it was too little too late as the Devils were on their way to a conference tournament bid.

Williamson finished the game with 14 points while sophomore guard Kevin Furlong tallied 11 points and eight assists.  Hall notched 13 points and six rebounds while Green recorded nine points and 12 boards.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at home for Senior Day against Delaware Valley beginning at 3 pm.
