Box Score MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by DeSales, 64-55, in Freedom Conference action on Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Devils still control their own destiny for the fourth and final spot in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-13 (5-7 Freedom) while the Bulldogs improved to 18-5 (10-2 Freedom).
It was a back-and-forth affair in the first half with the game being tied seven different times. FDU grabbed a three-point lead, 19-16, with 3:48 to go thanks to a three-pointer from junior guard
Trevor Sykes. DeSales came right back though, going on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to grab a 25-21 advantage which was the biggest lead by either team up until that point. FDU got the final bucket of the half however, when freshman guard
Nick Acito drilled a triple to make it 25-24 in favor of Desales heading into the break.
FDU opened the second half strong, taking a three-point lead (34-31) after a three-pointer from Sykes with four minutes gone by but that's when DeSales made their move. First, the Bulldogs went on a 14-4 run to take a 45-38 lead with 8:34 to play and after back-to-back layups by junior forwards
Andrew Stress and
Will Green that made it 45-42, DeSales exploded for a 10-2 run to jump out to a 55-44 lead with 3:53 remaining. FDU tried to get back in the game but DeSales made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to seal the 64-55 victory.
Sykes led the Devils with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists while Green added 12 points and nine boards. Senior guard
Mike Williamson notched 10 points.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Eastern beginning at 8 pm.
