Will Green (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) notched his fourth double-double of the season, while leading FDU-Florham to an 87-70 victory over Drew University in the "Battle of Madison Avenue" on Monday night at Baldwin Gym.
The Devils (5-4, 1-1 MAC) also received big nights from senior forwards
John Flete (Flemington, N.J./North Hampton CC) and
Andrew Stress (Wrightstown, Pa./Council Rock North). The duo tallied season-high point totals of 25 and 20 respectively in the win.
With 11:52 to play in the opening half and the game knotted at 17, the Devils rolled off a 19-5 run which was capped by a Flete layup. Flete finished the first half with 14 points and FDU held a 41-32 advantage at intermission.
In the second stanza, Stress pressured the Rangers (3-4) and came up with four second-half steals. Stress totaled six thefts in the contest, in addition to his 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. With 4:03 remaining in regulation, Flete knocked down two free throws and gave the Devils their largest lead of the game at 79-57. FDU consistently delivered from the charity stripe by shooting 12-for-15 in the half and thwarted any chance of a comeback.
The Devils took advantage of 21 Drew turnovers and converted the opportunities into 26 points.
In the win, Green grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds along with 16 points and three assists as he continues his quest for 1,000 career points. The senior forward currently sits at 935 points and is the active leader in rebounding for Division III with 744 boards.
Sophomore guard Mike Klinger led the way for the Rangers with 16 points and eight rebounds in defeat.
