Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) posted 13 points and 12 rebounds as the No. 17 Devils earned their eighth straight win by defeating King's College 76-57 on Saturday afternoon.
FDU-Florham (8-0, 2-0 MAC) held a 13-point lead at intermission, thanks to eight points apiece from Dayon and Devils senior point guard
Jalessa Lewis (Irvington, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) and never looked back, outscoring the Lady Monarchs 38-32 in the second stanza to remain undefeated on the season.
Lewis finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while
Rachel Groom (Edison, N.J./Edison) chipped in a team-high 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the victory. The Lady Monarchs (3-5, 0-2 MAC) were led offensively by freshman forward Kayla Fearirheller who led all scorers with 15 points.
With 14:02 to play in the opening half and the game knotted at eight, the Devils rolled off nine straight points capped by an
Alyssa McDonough (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville) three-pointer which built a 17-8 FDU lead. McDonough's second long-ball of the contest sent the Devils into halftime with a 38-25 advantage. The freshman guard finished with six points and four assists on the afternoon.
In the second half, the Devils built their largest lead of the game at 24 points before ultimately closing out the Lady Monarchs in their first Freedom Conference road match of the season.
FDU shot 40 percent from the floor including 35.3 percent from downtown, while the Devils limited King's to just 29.3 percent from the field in the contest.
The Devils did an excellent job taking care of the basketball which equated to just seven team turnovers. Once again, defensive pressure played a key role for the Devils, resulting in 23 Lady Monarch turnovers in the win.
