Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The No. 20 FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball remained undefeated on Sunday evening as they topped cross-street rival Drew University 74-63 at the Simon Forum.
Senior guard
Jalessa Lewis (Irvington, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) led the way for the Devils (6-0, 0-0 MAC) with 15 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists in the win.
With 6:01 to play in regulation, the Rangers (4-1) gave the Devils a scare when they evened the score at 59 all, however, FDU-Florham's aggressive defense buckled down and held Drew to just four points in the game's final six minutes, preserving the victory.
The Devils, who have won all six contests this season by double-digits, led 39-33 at intermission thanks to 17 Ranger turnovers. FDU-Florham center
Rachel Groom (Edison, N.J./Edison) posted six points and six boards to pace the Devils in the opening stanza. Groom finished the contest with ten points and 11 rebounds and has notched three double-doubles in the team's six games.
With the game knotted at 59-59, FDU-Florham rattled off eight-straight points which were capped by a layup from Groom at the 2:41 mark. The Devils stifling defense closed out the game to secure the win.
FDU-Florham continued to create havoc with their high-intensity defense and forced 27 total turnovers in the game.
Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) filled the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while her sister
Kara Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) added 13 points for the Devils.
FDU-Florham earned the victory despite shooting 1-of-7 from downtown in the second half and 5-for-25 in the game.
The Rangers were led by freshman Hannah Miller who posted 17 points and eight rebounds in defeat.
