SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Kevin Furlong (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) and John Flete (Flemington, N.J./North Hampton CC) scored 20 points each to lead the FDU-Fordham Devils to a 74-63 victory over Trinity College (Conn.) in the first game of the Sig Makofski Invitational Men's Basketball Tournament at Union College's Viniar Athletic Center Saturday night.
The Devils (2-3, 0-0 MAC) will face host Union College on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Championship Game, while the Consolation Game will feature Trinity (3-2) against SUNY Cobleskill (2-2).
Trevor Sykes (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boy's) scored 12 points with six boards and Furlong added eight rebounds for the Devils. On the night, FDU forced 21 turnovers and shot a season-best 84 percent from the line, making 16 of 19 shots.
Senior forward Will Green (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) posted 16 points with 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Trinity had a 40-32 rebounding advantage and shot 43 percent for the night. Jaquann Starks led Trinity with 15 points and seven rebounds.
FDU had a two-point lead at halftime, 36-34. With 6:46 to play in the second half, the game was tied for the 12th time at 56-56. The Devils went on a 12-3 run over the next 5:16, led by six points from Flete to build their lead.
The Devils made six free throws in the final 31 seconds to secure the victory.
