Strong Defensive Effort Nets Devils Tip-off Tournament Title

Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – Led by 21 points and five rebounds from Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central), the FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball team defeated the Hunter College Hawks 83-57, and claimed the Tip-off Tournament crown on Saturday afternoon at the Hunter Sportsplex.

The Devils (2-0, 0-0 MAC) earned the tournament title after wrapping up a 2-0 weekend in New York City.

Dayon was named Tournament MVP after averaging 22 points and 11 boards in the Devils two games. Sophomore teammate Rachel Groom (Edison, N.J./Edison) was also selected to the All-Tournament Team and averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds over the weekend.

FDU-Florham led 42-17 at the half and never looked back thanks to an outstanding defensive effort. The Devils forced Hawks leading-scorer Nicole Lenard into a 3-for-15 shooting swoon and held the Hunter offense to just 19.4% overall from the floor.

Groom and freshman forward Alyssa McDonough (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville) notched double-digit scoring efforts to secure the Devils victory.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU-Florham heads to Wilmington, OH where they will open with the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology this Friday, November 22nd at 8 p.m.
