Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils 2013 season came to an end on Saturday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field as they were defeated 63-40 by the Misericordia University Cougars.

The win for the Cougars is the first in the program's two-year history. Misericordia and FDU-Florham finish the campaign with matching 1-9 records.

Misericordia junior quarterback Jeff Puckett rushed for a program-high six touchdowns and totaled 160 yards on 26 carries in the win.

Today's game was a shootout from the start, as the Cougars opened the game with a four-play, 54-yard touchdown drive that took just 51 seconds. The drive was capped by a four-yard plunge from Puckett.

On the Devils first play from scrimmage, quarterback Mike Santos' (North Arlington, N.J./St. Mary's) pass was intercepted by Cougar defensive end Cory Dickerson and was brought down to the FDU-Florham 7-yard line.  Puckett rushed in on the next play to provide the Cougars a 14-0 advantage with 13:44 still remaining in the opening quarter.

On the second play of FDU-Florham's next possession, tailback Craig Kimbrough (Dover, N.J./Morris Catholic) broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run to get the Devils on the board.

The Cougars countered with an eight-play, 73-yard march on the ensuing possession to build a 21-6 lead with 1:52 to play in the first quarter.

After forcing an FDU-Florham punt, the Misericordia attack went back to work and Puckett found the end zone for the third time, increasing the Cougar lead to 28-6.

The Devils rallied back courtesy of two touchdown strikes from Santos to Fruncillo, from three and 14 yards out respectively, to cut the Misericordia lead to 28-20 with 12:20 to play in the half.

The two teams traded touchdowns equating to a 35-27 Cougar lead. Puckett's fifth rushing touchdown of the first half built the Misericordia lead to 42-27 with 2:16 remaining in the second quarter.

With 53 seconds remaining in the opening half, Santos found Fruncillo on a 14-yard connection to bring the Devils back within one score.

Both teams went three-and-out on their opening possessions of the second half before the Devils put together their best drive of the afternoon. Santos hooked up with senior tight end Doug Van Orden (Madison, N.J./Madison) on a 16-yard slant capping a 12-play, 70-yard FDUF drive. A botched snap on the point-after try, resulted in a 42-40 game with 4:58 remaining in the third quarter.

The Cougars proceeded to score 21 unanswered points thanks to two touchdown rushes by Santarsiero and one from Puckett, equating to the 63-40 final.

Misericordia totaled an impressive 408 rushing yards in the game, while the two teams combined totaled over 1,000 yards on the day.

Santos tossed for 274 yards and four touchdowns in his final game as a Devil.
