Box Score CHESTER, Pa. – The FDU-Florham Devils football team was defeated 59-14 by the Pride of Widener University on Saturday afternoon at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
The Devils (1-6, 0-6 MAC) allowed 42 points in the opening half en route to their sixth loss in a row. With the victory, the Pride improved to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Widener is currently tied for first place in the MAC with Lebanon Valley College and Lycoming College.
FDU quarterback
Michael Santos (North Arlington, N.J./St. Mary's) tossed for 162 yards on 19 completions in the loss. The Pride limited Santos' favorite target,
Anthony Fruncillo (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) to just one reception on the afternoon.
Widener wasted no time opening a 7-0 lead only 32 seconds into play, courtesy of a 44-yard touchdown run by Couve LaFete. Pride running back Richard Brown got in on the action during Widener's next possession. Brown totaled five carries, resulting in a two-yard touchdown plunge which increased their lead to 14-0.
The Pride added two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to pull out a 28-0 advantage.
With 6:10 remaining in the first half, the Devils were able to break into the scoring column when sophomore running back
Craig Kimbrough (Dover, N.J./Morris Catholic) capped a 79-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
Widener fired right back with two more scores, this time through the air, as freshman quarterback Seth Klein tossed 16 and 52-yard touchdown strikes to increase the Pride lead to 42-7.
The Pride outgained the Devils 412-192 in the first half led by Klein, who completed 22-of-24 passes for 276 yards and two scores.
FDU's second, and final score of the day, came from reserve sophomore quarterback
Anthony Ognibene (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy), who charged into the end zone from one-yard out, which resulted in a 52-14 game.
Devils senior linebacker
Mike Mancino (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) added an impressive 12 tackles in the loss.
