Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils men's soccer team (7-4-1, 1-0 MAC) battled the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders (11-3, 2-2 NJAC) on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field, but ultimately came up short falling 2-1.
Chaz Armand (Atlanta, GA/Westlake) opened the scoring for the Devils when he fired in a crossbar rebound to provide the Devils with a 1-0 lead 11:59 into play.
The game featured Division III soccer's top two scorers, Raphael Araujo (16 goals) of the Scarlet Raiders and the Devils
Ryan Hurdes (15 goals). In the 35
th minute Araujo delivered, knotting the score at one goal aside.
The game remained tied until the 73
rd minute, when Rutgers-Newark's Patrick Dawidczyk drove a left-corner strike passed the Devils diving keeper,
Nick Mihalik (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) for the game's deciding score.
Mihalik made six saves in defeat for the Devils, who were outshot 12-7 on the night.
